"Here is the link to the webinar series on marketing at the BoP, which had 3 webinars and sets of slides, involving Hystra and various speakers:  how to viably market and distribute beneficial products at the BOP http://bit.ly/2geDLYf"

"I was also hearing the other day that too much top line marketing can actually be damaging.  It takes energy away from keeping current clients happy and so can risk satisfaction levels. "

"Client satisfaction, client satisfaction, client satisfaction - oh and word of mouth but that comes from client satisfaction. Here is another great graph that Hystra presented on our marketing webinar: "

"This is an interesting example Jesse.  Presumably pharmacies already have a fair degree of trust?   So that then helps create the opportunity to sell new products?    I know for example that ClickMedix have new technologies for…"

"That's interesting Robert. Is there no opportunity for mobile phone payment?  I agree that if is cash based, that is a huge constraint on scale."

"Living Goods demonstrates another set of lessons: the value of pooling a trusted network for different types of goods.   As I understand it, Living Goods have quite a strong screening process for selecting which goods they include in their…"

"Hystra did some great research on what reduces salesforce churn across different last mile examples.  This is a slide from the webinar we did with them, which shows 3 key factors:  competition, partly fixed compensation (part flex) and…"

About my work:
In 1993 I was helping remote communities set up beautiful campsites. A decade later i was working with mainstream tourism businesses, helping them harness their own supply chains and their guests' spending power to deliver local economic gain. These days I facilitate inclusive business initiatives that range from farming services via mobile phones in India, lpg cooking cylinders in Nigeria, to peanut processing in Malawi. There are some common themes through all this. Harnessing the drive of business in ways that multiply social gain is one. What I and many others now call 'inclusive business'. Inclusive business is very firmly about profit - because the commercial drive is what gives the best hope of reaching scale that most donors or NGOs can only dream of. But inclusive business is also about doing business differently, finding ways that that multiply viable opportunities for low income people. Experience is plentiful, showing it's not rocket science but it does take a different mindset and different leadership.

Focusing on results is another running theme - while I've never yet been an evaluation junkie, I've ended up assessing value chains, conducting livelihood assessments, modelling economic and financial returns, developing M&E frameworks, writing impact assessment guidance sheets and manuals, and even co-authoring a book on how we can better understand impacts of tourism on poverty; because if we take our eye off results, delivery falters.
Other Topics on my radar:
Inclusive business - where next, what works and what doesn't?
Using procurement power and supply chains for stimulating local enterprise.
Assessing impacts of business - finding methods that are feasible for companies but answer substantive questions.
