5 Great Christmas Charities and Programs of 2017

The holiday season is often a time to reflect on how blessed you are, and how to help others who are less fortunate. If you are fortunate to have a little money to spare, a donation to a worthy charity is a wonderful way to end the year. If things are a little tight, consider replacing a traditional gift with a charitable contribution. This allows you to help someone in need, and most gift recipients will enjoy the idea as well. Below you can read about five charities that are making the world a better place.

Heifer International

A donation to Heifer International can provide a needy individual with a goat, cow, a flock of chickens or other animal that will aid a family. You can also provide a flat amount to provide educational resources or other general gifts.

Oxfam America Unwrapped

Similar to Heifer International, this program allows you to gift things to those in need, and your friend or family member will receive a card detailing the gift. There are a range of items you can provide, from bicycles to trees.

Brighton Housing Trust

If you want to provide help for the homeless, consider Brighton Housing Trust. This organization is converting used shipping containers from places like Mar-Rube Trailer Rental into housing for those in need. The shipping containers provide an affordable housing alternative that is also safe and easily maintained.

World Wildlife Fund

Children can get into the donation game easily through the World Wildlife Fund. Whether you are considering making a donation in a youngster’s name or want to include your children in the act of charitable giving, this organization provides some great option for kids. You can make symbolic animal adoptions, take part in the Endangered Species of the Month Club, and purchase sustainable, handcrafted items.

International Rescue Committee

In these times when there are continual concerns on the fate of refugees, a donation to the International Rescue Committee is a thoughtful gift. You can donate toward healthcare, sanitation, or education. The individual you donate on behalf of will receive an email or print card detailing the gift.

These are just a few of the many charity programs that are doing good work and could use support before the end of the year. Selecting a charity that you wish to donate to is extremely personal. You should consider your passions as well as those of the person you are gifting to before you make your choice. Doing so allows you to provide a wonderful holiday gift for yourself, your loved ones, and for those you don’t know.
