Around the globe, there are about 500 million smallholder farms. For companies operating in the food/beverage and related sectors, sourcing from these farmers presents both tremendous growth opportunities, but also new challenges in terms of business model adaptation and supply chain innovation.
How are businesses profitably investing in smallholder farmers for a more food secure future? This was the focus of an event on Wednesday 21 September at Columbia Business School, New York) hosted by the Business Call to Action, the Global Business School Network, the UN Global Compact PRME network and Columbia Business School. The event was supported by Business Fights Poverty.
The event was moderated by Dr Murray B. Low, Director, The Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Center, Columbia Business School.
